Coffee Basics: Types of Roasts

To best determine your preferred roast level, here are the four categories of roast levels that Heritage Coffee utilizes:

Light Roast:This type of roast is light brown in color and preferred for more mild-bodied coffees. These beans should not have any oil on the surface.
Medium Roast: This type of roast is medium brown in color with a non-oily surface. Traditionally, this is the most preferred type of roast for Americans.
Medium-Dark Roast: This type of roast is dark brown in color and presents with an oily surface.
Dark Roast: This type of roast contains nearly black and oily beans.

To best determine your preferred flavor profile (also known as the coffee's "body") here are the three flavor categories that Fresh Roasted Coffee utilizes:

Mild: Coffee with a mild body is not sharp, pungent or strong. Many light roast coffees have this flavor characteristic.
Bold: Coffee with a bold body has a strong and noticeable flavor. Coffees from medium to dark roast levels can possess this flavor characteristic.
Extra Bold: Coffee with an extra bold body has flavors that are extremely strong and pronounced. Dark roast coffees can possess this flavor characteristic.
